Photography - Gown Rentals

The bookstore offers gown rental service for students who wish to have photographs taken outside of regular convocation dates. This service is intended for photography purposes only, and is available year-round except during convocation week and the weeks before and following convocation week each semester.

We strongly suggest that you call the bookstore and confirm regalia availability for your required dates before you make an appointment with your photographer. We have a limited supply of hoods and gowns, so we might not be able to fill your request for a particular day unless you check with us in advance.

The rental package includes one gown and one hood; mortarboard caps are available for sale separately if desired. The rental fees are as follows:

  • One Day Rental - $10.00 plus $50.00 Deposit
  • One Week Rental - $40.00 plus $50.00 Deposit

We require a $50.00 deposit with each rental (this is subject to change depending on the duration of the rental); this will be refunded upon return of the rental package in its original condition. Payment may be made by Visa, Mastercard, debit card or cash.

To reserve your gown, please call (709) 864-7440 or print and fax/email the gown rental form to (709) 864-2405.

The cut off dates for gown rentals (Fall 2014) are Thursday, October 9th, 2014 for one-week rentals and Wednesday, October 15th, 2014 for one-day rentals. Gown rental service for photography will resume on Tuesday, October 21st, 2014.

For further information give us a call at (709) 864-7440 or come see us in person at the University Bookstore, UC2006.

Emergency Evacuation Procedures

Emergency evacuation plans are located in strategic locations on each floor of all campus buildings. Members of the university community should become familiar with these plans as well as the location of fire alarm stations, emergency exits, and fire extinguishers in their area. In the event that a building needs to be evacuated for any reason, a fire alarm will be activated.

If You Discover Fire, See Smoke Or Smell Gas:

  1. Sound alarm to warn occupants (Fire alarm pull station);
  2. Evacuate IMMEDIATELY using the nearest safe exit, proceed outside, and clear the building to a minimum distance of 100 m (300 feet) to the nearest assembly point: DO NOT USE ELEVATORS FOR EVACUATION PURPOSES;
  3. If you require assistance to evacuate:
    a. take shelter in a safe location,
    b. inform someone of your location, and
    c. ask them to notify CEP or Fire Department (Main Entrance) of your location.
  4. If trained to do so, fight fire using a fire extinguisher only if it is small and not between you and an exit; and
  5. Call Campus Enforcement and Patrol (St. John?s 864-4100,Grenfell 637-2888)

If The Fire Alarm Sounds:

  1. Stop all work and remain calm;
  2. Evacuate IMMEDIATELY using the nearest safe exit, proceed outside, and clear the building to a minimum distance of 100 m (300 feet) to the nearest assembly point: DO NOT USE ELEVATORS FOR EVACUATION PURPOSES;
  3. If you require assistance to evacuate:
    a. take shelter in a safe location,
    b. inform someone of your location, and
    c. ask them to notify CEP or Fire Department (Main Entrance) of your location.
  4. Do not attempt to remove any vehicle from the parking lot/garage;
  5. Obey all instructions of the Emergency Wardens and CEP;
  6. Comply with Fire Department orders; and
  7. Return to the building only when CEP has authorized you to do so.
